Should I repair or replace?

This question is often asked, especially when an Apple MacBook repair or Apple iMac repair is concerned.

Have you ever taken a MacBook with a screen light problem or water damage to an Apple-authorised “repairer”?

If you have, you will probably know that Apple doesn’t repair; they replace. If you have a damaged logic board, also often referred to as a motherboard (the circuit board that everything else plugs into), there is a very good chance that the board can be repaired. Apple will, however, want to replace the logic board, and the cost is likely to be as much as the device’s value!

There are mechanics, and there are fitters…

Why is this relevant?

The terms “car mechanic” and “car fitter” are often used interchangeably, but there is a subtle difference between the two professions.

Car mechanics specialise in the mechanical aspects of cars, such as the engine, transmission, and brakes. They diagnose and repair problems with these components and perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes and tune-ups.

On the other hand, car fitters specialise in installing and repairing car parts and accessories. This includes tires, batteries, exhaust systems, and air conditioning units.

Car mechanics generally have a broader range of skills and knowledge than car fitters. This is because they need to be able to diagnose and repair a wider range of problems. Car fitters, on the other hand, may have more specialised knowledge and experience in certain areas, such as tire installation or exhaust repair.

So, repair or replace?

Maidstone Technology has specialist microelectronic engineers that can repair logic boards. This is often a significantly better value option, and all repairs come with a complete 12-month parts and labour warranty.
