At about £300 more than the standard PS5, will you go for it?
Full disclosure: I have a gaming PC and prefer PC gaming, and although I have a Playstion, I am only a part-time console user, and yes, Maidstone Techmology will be providing PS5 Pro repairs.
Moving on: Sony has finally unveiled its highly anticipated mid-generation upgrade, the PlayStation 5 Pro. This powerful console is set to redefine gaming experiences, delivering stunning visuals, smoother frame rates, and enhanced performance, but is it worth the extra £300? Here’s what we know:
Enhanced Graphics: The PS5 Pro boasts a significantly upgraded GPU, substantially boosting rendering power. This translates to more detailed environments, higher resolutions, and improved ray-tracing effects. Expect to be immersed in visually stunning worlds like never before.
Smoother Gameplay: The console’s increased processing power allows for higher frame rates, resulting in smoother gameplay and reduced input lag. This is especially beneficial for fast-paced action games, competitive titles, and those prioritising a responsive gaming experience.
AI-Powered Upscaling: Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology utilizes AI to upscale lower-resolution images to near-native 4K quality. Even older games can benefit from the PS5 Pro’s enhanced capabilities, delivering a more refined visual experience.
Expanded Storage: The PS5 Pro has a larger internal storage capacity, allowing you to store more games and media without worrying about running out of space. This is especially important for those with extensive digital libraries.
Compatibility: Rumours suggest that the PS5 Pro is fully backwards compatible with PS5 and PS4 games, ensuring that you can continue to enjoy your favourite titles on this new platform. Additionally, the console supports various accessories and peripherals from the PS5 ecosystem. But, like I say, these are rumours.
The PS5 Pro certainly looks good
A Leap Forward for Gaming?
I dont think so. We all know that high-end PC gaming rigs are far superior to even Pro consoles. But PCs don’t quite have that pickup-and-play attribute that consoles have. But it is also fair to say you won’t get a high-end PC gaming rig for £699, so there’s quite a trade-off here. But, for that £ 700-ish budget, the PS5 Pro is quite attractive. Its enhanced graphics, smoother gameplay, and advanced features offer a compelling upgrade for those who demand the best gaming experience. Whether you’re a hardcore gamer or a casual enthusiast, the PS5 Pro promises to deliver unforgettable gaming moments.
As the console becomes available, gamers can expect a wave of new titles optimized to take advantage of its capabilities. From breathtaking open-world adventures to immersive virtual reality experiences, the PS5 Pro is poised to redefine what is possible in gaming, for consoles at least.
Bridge the gap?
One big hope for the PS5 Pro is that it could bridge the gap between performance and fidelity modes. Standard Sony PlayStation 5s force players to choose between one or the other. You either want high performance or high fidelity; you take your pick.
Bridge another gap?
Given that the PS5 is about £400, and an entry-level gaming computer is about £900, maybe the PS5’s price of £700 fills the gap between consoles in general and Gaming PCs. But as someone with a gaming PC and a PS5, I don’t think the Pro will be for me. As a company that will provide PS5 Pro repairs, we believe this will make the consoles more viable for repair.

To summarise: Lots of rumours about the PS5 features are circulating, so we shall see what happens. Although I am not convinced many will want to pay an extra £300 for some enhanced performance, it will appeal to some. More choice within a very narrow console market can’t be a bad thing.
