Who hasn't struggled getting their email signature just the way they want it?

What are email signatures (and HTML signatures)

I think most people know what an email signature is, right? It's mostly quite small, but often excessively large parcels of text, images, links, and sometimes moving images like GIFs, which are automatically added to the bottom of your new or reply to emails. HTML  (Hyper Text Markup Language) signatures are created using the same coding language that is used for websites. Using HTML allows for far greater customisation for font types and styles, sizing and spacing and provides a huge amount of flexibility, albeit with additional complexity. The text parts have the obligatory sign-offs: name of the sender, essential contacts like telephone numbers, which constitute a basic signature. But all too often, the signature rolls on into the emails southerly real estate, and that's where things start to get tricky.

The signatures keep growing:

It didn't take long for signature creep to arrive. We've all seen the platitudes and unsolicited advice, I'm sure. The "Please think twice before printing this email" and "Save a tree, dont print" Followed by what seems like reams of legal jargon and terms. For most, these are not necessary; however, I have had clients find themselves in some serious legal hot water for either not including such statements or not stating them correctly. For some industries, the legal statements within the email signature are quite frankly essential. Sometimes it's a famous quote or what might be considered a thought for the day. Other times, it boldly dashes into straight-up advertising, like showing off the latest product.
